Resident Life

We recognize that residents learn and work best in an environment with ample support services and with a minimum of stress. Excellent ancillary services are available for residents. Restriction of numbers of admissions and minimum numbers of days off per rotation ensure that educational priorities are not diminished by the service needs of the medical center. In addition, the program director carefully monitors resident stress levels.

To promote camaraderie among the housestaff, the program organizes numerous social functions including a welcome picnic, holiday party and a graduation party.

Just 13 miles from downtown Chicago, Oak Lawn offers safe and affordable community living with close proximity to the numerous resources and cultural events that Chicago has to offer. With a population of 60,000, Oak Lawn provides a full array of community resources and activities for families, such as a modern library, parks, health and fitness centers, and a nearby forest preserve offering a number of outdoor activities.

Chicago offers numerous activities and places for house staff to enjoy during their free time, such as cultural events, sporting events, ethnic restaurants, museums and parks.
