TOPIC:   Notification of Time Requirements for Certification of Residency Training
PURPOSE:   To ensure that residents are informed in writing of the effect of absences on satisfying the criteria for completion of a residency program.
POLICY:   All residency programs will have a policy on the effect of absences on satisfying the criteria for completion of a residency program.

Procedure

  1. Each program will have a written policy that details the effect of absences on satisfying the criteria for completion of that particular residency program.
  2. Each residency program will take into account when instituting such policies the requirements of the appropriate accrediting body (ACGME, AOA, CPME, ADA), Residency Review Committee requirements, and the appropriate Board requirements.
  3. Each program will present the policy to the Education and Research Committee.
  4. The Program Director or designee will provide such policy to any resident requesting a leave of absence and will also provide counseling on the implications of such policy to the individual resident.
