Pelvic Examination or PAP Smear by Residents |
| PURPOSE: |

To facilitate the performance and documentation of Pelvic exam and or PAP Smear by residents. |
| POLICY: |
|
A female member of the nursing staff shall remain with the patient during a vaginal examination and or PAP Smear. |
Procedure
- Any resident performing a Pelvic examination or obtaining a PAP Smear will have a female member of the nursing staff present during the examination.
- The resident will document on the PAP Smear form or in the progress notes as deemed appropriate, what examination or procedure was done, what were the findings and the name of the nurse present during the examination.
