Procedure

1. Each Program is responsible for implementing policies and procedures that ensure the adequate supervision of residents at all times.
2. Each Program Director will ensure that residents have rapid and reliable systems for communicating with the supervising attending (s) and or faculty.
3. Ultimate responsibility for the care of a patient rests with the attending physician.
4. Patient care responsibilities are delegated by the Program Director or designee or by the attending physician, to residents commensurate with their level of training, experience and demonstrated clinical competence.
5. All clinical procedures must have the prior approval of the attending physician.
6. The patient care rendered by a resident physician may not be contrary to the management approved by the attending physician unless it is directed by the appropriate Department Chairman in accordance with Medical Staff by laws.
7. Senior residents supervise junior residents assigned to them.
8. Resident physicians supervise students assigned to them.
9. Residents must write all orders for patients under their care with appropriate supervision by the attending physician.
