TOPIC:   Communications
PURPOSE:   To ensure that the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) has oversight and administration of all Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center accredited residency programs.
POLICY:   All relevant communication from the Program Directors to the ACGME, ADA, AOA, or CPME must be co-signed by the DIO or designee.

Procedure

  1. Any and all program information forms and any correspondence or document submitted to the ACGME, ADA, AOA, or CPME by the Program Director, such as those that address program citations or request changes in the program that would have significant impact, including financial, on the program or institution must be reviewed and cosigned by the DIO.
  2. In the absence of the DIO, and if the communication cannot await the return of the DIO, it will be the responsibility of the Director of Medical Education to fulfill this role of the DIO.
  3. In the event that the communication involves any of the items listed below, the DIO or designee will ensure that it is reviewed and approved by the Education and Research Committee/GMEC prior to it being submitted:
    1. All applications for ACGME, ADA, AOA, or CPME accreditation of new programs and subspecialties;
    2. Changes in resident complement;
    3. Major changes in program structure or length of training;
    4. Additions and deletions of participating institutions used in a program;
    5. Appointments of new program directors;
    6. Progress report requested by any Review Committee;
    7. Response to all proposed adverse actions;
    8. Requests for increases or any changes in resident duty hours;
    9. Requests for "inactive status" or to reactivate a program;
    10. Requests for an appeal of an adverse action; and,
    11. Appeal presentations to a Board of Appeal or to the ACGME, ADA, AOA, or CPME.
