Dismissal of Residents |
| PURPOSE: |
|
To establish guidelines for the dismissal of residents. |
| POLICY: |
|
Residents may be dismissed for just cause in which case they have the right to invoke the appeals process. |
Procedure
- A resident may be dismissed by the Program Director for conduct that is unacceptable in a postgraduate medical student. Such conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Failure to comply with the terms of the resident's contract including failure to maintain a valid medical license and/or visa.
- Unprofessional conduct.
- Unethical conduct.
- Employment Rule Violations
- Conviction of a felony.
- Substandard performance that has not responded to appropriate departmental remediation efforts.
- The Director of Medical Education and the Vice President of Human Resources (designee) must be contacted prior to a resident dismissal.
- A resident that is dismissed must be notified in writing and must be provided with a written copy of the Appeals Process Policy at the time of dismissal.
