| PURPOSE: |
|

| Policy: |
|
Resident employment outside the residency program may not interfere with the education or performance of the resident. |
Procedure
- Residents are not required to engage in moonlighting.
- Only residents with a permanent license may moonlight.
- Moonlighting, when allowed by a program, requires a prospective, written statement of permission from the Program Director that is made part of the resident's file.
- The resident's performance will be monitored by the Program Director for the effect of the moonlighting upon performance and adverse effects may lead to withdrawal of permission.
- Residents may not moonlight while engaged in activities of the residency program or face disciplinary action up to and including immediate dismissal from the residency program (e.g. on-call and moonlighting simultaneously).
- A resident on probation or on academic remediation, or whom in the opinion of the Program Director is not fulfilling his or her duties as a resident, will have his or her moonlighting privileges curtailed or revoked.
- Medical activities outside the scope of the training program are not covered by the professional liability coverage provided through the Resident Agreement.
- The time spent moonlighting at AIMMC or any of its sites must be counted toward the 80-hour per week duty hours limit.
