

PGY I:
Responsibilities include accepting primary decision making for patient
management in collaboration with the senior resident and attending
physician. The intern is expected to write all orders, document care in
the chart with SOAP notes, perform daily work rounds and attend all
conferences.
Listing of rotations:
- Medicine* - 8-9 blocks
- MICU/CICU - 1-2 blocks
- Electives - 3 blocks
Geriatrics - 1 block
Elective - 1 block
Ambulatory - 1 block
PGY II:
Main responsibility is supervising the PGY I resident with the
management of patients. Junior residents are expected to ensure quality
of care for each patient, take leadership roles during work rounds, and
participate in all conferences. They also play a major role in the
education of students and present a case (CPC) during this year.

- Medicine* - 5 blocks
- MICU/CICU - 2 blocks
- Electives - 4-5 blocks
- Independent Practice - 1 block
- Emergency Medicine - 1 block
PGY III:
Main responsibility is to assure appropriate functioning of the entire
team, with an accent on scholarship. The senior residents are expected
to ensure quality of care for each patient, to lead work rounds,
participate in all conferences, and supervise the education of students.
They also present an Ambulatory Care Conference during this year.
Listing of rotations:
- Medicine* - 5 blocks
- MICU/CICU - 2 blocks
- Electives - 6 blocks
The responsibilities, role and curriculum of preliminary PGY-I residents
are identical to those of the categorical PGY-I year with the exception
that other subspecialty electives can be substituted for the elective
rotations in Geriatrics and Ambulatory Medicine. They are also not
assigned to the Nesset Center (outpatient clinic).
* Medicine includes GMF, Telemetry and Oncology. Call
frequency while on Medicine rotations is every fourth night. When averaged
over the entire training period, call frequency is every eighth night.
Elective rotations are call-free.

Things you need to know about our elective rotations:
- Our program is comprehensive. It enables us to offer you all
electives on site.
- Categorical residents will have 13-15 blocks of electives in the course
of three years. This will allow everyone an opportunity to experience
all of our electives.
- Off-site elective is permitted once during the residency.
