Facility

Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital (ALGCH) is committed to providing the finest pediatric care in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs. The facility includes:

  • A 28 bed inpatient unit for children ages birth to 11 years
  • An 18 bed Adolescent Unit
  • A 10 bed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit
  • A 9 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a 4 bed Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit
  • A 54 bed Newborn Nursery
  • A 43 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The facility is a Level Three Referral Center, the highest designation granted by the state.
  • A pediatric Emergency Room. ALGCH is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, a title held by only 5 Chicago-area hospitals. This enables residents to participate in the care of critically injured children and adolescents.

The 80,000 square foot Victor Yacktman Children's Pavilion is the site of outpatient pediatric services at ALGCH. The pavilion is linked by an indoor walkway to the Lutheran General Children’s Hospital inpatient units. Interactive art, sculptures, and bright geometric patterns create a kaleidoscope effect throughout the interior of the Pavilion, providing comfort for children and their families.

In early 2009, one of the largest additions in the history of Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital will be complete. An eight story patient tower will provide the Children’s Hospital with much needed critical care space. Features will include:

  • A new mother baby unit
  • A 15 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • An expansion of the general pediatric unit by 11 beds
  • Expanded inpatient MRI services
  • A waiting area with activity filled décor for children
  • A "story telling rail" with a tale etched along the entire length at just the right height for children to read
  • An interactive "Living Light Wall" that changes colors with the wave of a hand.
  • A roof-top "Healing Pediatric Garden"

The new tower will also house several adult critical care floors. It is one of the first hospital towers in the state to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
