A Message from The Program Directors

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Program at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. Our program is committed to training residents to become excellent pediatricians whether they choose to practice primary care or pursue a career in a subspecialty area or in research. We emphasize education which is delivered in a friendly and nurturing environment. We take great pride in our dedication to resident education and in our faculty members and community pediatricians who serve as clinical mentors and teachers. The faculty physicians at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital are exceptional in their respective areas and have been trained at some of the finest programs. Our residents, in turn, go on to outstanding fellowships and primary care positions throughout the country.

ALGCH is a “hidden treasure” among the major hospitals in the Chicago area. It is located in Park Ridge, a lovely suburb of Chicago known for its superb schools. It is only minutes from the city, the airport, and many ethnic neighborhoods, all of which contribute to a very diverse patient population. ALGCH serves as a regional tertiary referral center for the northern and northwestern Chicago suburbs. It also serves as the community hospital for children from these areas. The result is that our residents see large numbers of children with common pediatric illnesses as well as children with rare illnesses such as congenital malformations, genetic disorders, and complex congenital heart disease.

Our goal as a pediatric residency program is to prepare residents to become outstanding pediatricians who will continually challenge themselves to be critical thinkers, compassionate advocates of children, and skillful healers.
