Caring for patients alongside residents at Advocate Children's Hospital - Oak Lawn are academic clinicians who are among the most highly regarded and accomplished physicians in Chicago, representing the full spectrum of pediatric subspecialties. They have been recruited from major teaching institutions throughout the country to a medical center with a vision of growth, quality health care, the opportunity for teaching and scholarly activity, and altruism.
Department members regularly serve on the editorial boards of major medical journals, the board of the NIH Grant Committee, and as examiners for their subspecialty boards. Faculty members are on the Board of Directors of the American Professional Society on The Abuse of Children, the Physician Advisory Board for the Illinois Department of Public Aid, the Board of Governors of the American Heart Association, and the National Injury Prevention Committee of the AAP. One member is Vice President of the Genetic Task Force of Illinois, and one is President-Elect of the American Medical Women's Association.
Members of the Pediatrics Faculty have won the President's Award from the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the University of Illinois' Raymond B. Allen teaching award (four consecutive years) and the Dianne Masters Award for Community Service from the Crisis Center for South Suburbia. In addition, faculty members have recently been awarded the Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Cancer Society and the annual award of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America. In addition, the chairman of the department was recognized as Pediatrician of the Year by the Starlight Foundation.
