Learn all about diabetes treatment and prevention at Trinity's "Diabetes Education Class", October 7th, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and October 14th, 2009, from 1:00 P.M. -3:00 P.M. at the Private Dining Room in Cafeteria at Trinity Hospital, 2320 E. 93rd Street in Chicago. Do you have low calorie, low salt, low carbohydrates or a low fats diet? Join us for an informative session on what you can eat. The event will be held Tuesday, October 13th, from 10 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. Come out and learn which foods contain carbohydrates and how to estimate the amount of carbs in the food. There is also a chance to get your questions answered by a dietitian.
Patients with congestive heart failure can get help on managing heart failure and related topics, from a registered nurse, the third Thursday of every month from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The heart failure support group is designed for heart patients and their support persons who need education and additional support. Breakfast will be served.
How healthy is your heart. Advocate Trinity Hospital is offering heart risk assessments for $20, by appointment, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 P.M. until 5 P.M. at their Heart Risk Assessment Clinic. The heart risk assessment screens for diabetes and heart disease. The assessment includes blood pressure, body composition, glucose levels, a heart risk questionnaire, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides and a detailed result booklet. Expectant moms and their support person can tour Trinity's labor and delivery areas. During this time, questions will be answered by a health care professional. Participating in this tour will help expectant parents feel more comfortable during the labor and delivery experience. The free tour is available every Sunday from 1:00 P.M.- 2:00 P.M. at Advocate Trinity Hospital, 2320 E. 93rd Street, Chicago IL, 60617. Registration is required.

According to the American Heart Association, getting blood cholesterol and blood pressure measurements should be part of an overall plan of medical care. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure. Trinity Hospital will offer free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings at the following locations in collaboration with churches and community groups.
