Advocate Health Care is pleased to announce the appointment of Vincent Bufalino, MD, as president, Advocate Medical Group (AMG). Dr. Bufalino will assume the role on July 1st and will succeed current AMG president Dr. James Dan who announced his retirement earlier this year.
As president of AMG, Dr. Bufalino will lead Advocate’s employed, multi-specialty medical group, which currently consists of more than 1,500 physicians, 400 advanced practice clinicians and 350 sites of care. Additionally, he will partner with hospital and physician leadership across Advocate to advance key service line strategies and population health-focused initiatives.
Dr. Bufalino currently serves as senior vice president, Advocate Heart Institute, and senior medical director of cardiology, AMG. Board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Bufalino is on the medical staff of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital as well as Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. He is the former chairman and CEO of Midwest Heart Specialists, Illinois’ largest independent cardiology practice which integrated with AMG in 2012.
“After so capably serving as president during a time of tremendous growth and increasing significance, Dr. Dan’s departure isn’t something we take lightly,” said Bill Santulli, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Advocate Health Care. “We are pleased to have Dr. Bufalino assuming the role and are confident he’s the right person to build upon the solid foundation already in place.”
“From his time with Midwest Heart Specialists to his role overseeing Advocate Heart Institute, Vince has proven himself to be an effective and highly respected leader who’s always driven by doing what’s best for our patients,” said Dr. Dan. “It’s comforting to know the group is in such great hands.”
Dr. Bufalino has received multiple awards from the American Heart Association (AHA), where he has been active for more than 20 years. As of 2015, he is a member of the AHA’s national Quality Oversight Committee.
Dr. Bufalino resides in Glen Ellyn, Ill. with his wife Joan.
