Residents spend four weeks with an anesthesiologist in both major and minor procedures. Clinical experiences include learning venipuncture techniques, the administering of intravenous agents, airway management, anesthesia induction and intubation, administration of anesthetic agents, prevention and treatments of anesthetic emergencies, and assessment of patient recovery from anesthesia.
Residents rotate for two weeks in the emergency room/Level I trauma center at Illinois Masonic. This rotation follows the history and physical course where residents get exposure to common medical and surgical problems and treatment of dental emergencies.
The residents will do a one month rotation and will do simple, uncomplicated exodontia, surgical exodontia, medical risk assessment, and minor oral surgery, and gain experience in various sedation techniques while in the operating room and ambulatory surgery areas. This will be done in the Oral Surgery Service, Department of Surgery at Cook County Hospital.
