Oak Lawn, Ill. – Advocate Christ Medical Center is one of only eight hospitals nation-wide, and the only Chicago-area hospital, cited for best heart-transplant patient outcomes, according to data collected by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, as reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.

The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR,) using data collected from other organizations, assesses outcomes of centers that perform organ transplants. SRTR reports it uses a risk-adjusted assessment to evaluate how often patients are alive with a functioning transplanted organ one year after the transplant and then assigns a score of one (the worst) to five (the best).

“These quality outcomes are the result of teamwork and collaboration between the patient, the patient’s family members, the surgeons, anaesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses and the entire transplant team,” said Pat Pappas, MD, FACS, FACCP, Medical Director and heart transplant surgeon, Advocate Heart Institute at Christ Medical Center. “I am incredibly humbled by the faith and trust our patients have for our multidisciplinary team and their continued fight for life until a heart becomes available.  We are honored to be part of their journey, before, during and after heart transplantation.”

"Over the past eleven years, we have worked diligently to build clinical institutes and services that would provide outstanding care. This recognition places us among the very elite heart transplant centers in the country," said Kenneth W. Lukhard, president, Advocate Christ Medical Center.
