Advocate Children's Hospital - Oak Lawn

We make the biggest difference in the lives of the youngest patients. Down to the smallest details, we've built our hospital to meet the unique needs of children and their families. At Advocate Children's Hospital, you'll be immersed in one of the most advanced pediatric settings in the world. And our achievement of Magnet Designation for excellence in nursing is a testament to the excellence you'll find here.

Celebrating more than ten years of providing compassionate, kid-friendly care, Advocate Children's Hospital opened its doors in late 1996 with the goal of providing the highest level of care to young patients and their families. The hospital was designed with insight from families and pediatric specialists to minimize fear of treatment. Our child-centered environment distinguishes Advocate Children's Hospital from other teaching and academic facilities. It's a unique hospital. And a truly unique career opportunity.

We've built our world around the world of children.
Advocate Children's Hospital, with its vision of superior care, is designed to meet the highest standards in medical treatment and personal comfort for each of its patients.

Procedures are performed in treatment areas that are separate from the child's room which remains a safe haven throughout their stay. And that's just the beginning. The four-story, 69-bed hospital includes:

45 private inpatient rooms with sleeping and bath accommodations for parents.
15 private rooms for intensive care, designed to enable parents to remain at their child's bedside.
9-bed surgical heart unit.
Outpatient, radiology, and rehabilitation areas that minimize fear or stress through child-friendly decor and play areas.
Specially-designated outpatient treatment rooms that enable patients and families coping with similar health problems, a chronic condition, or long-term illness to informally network during their visits.
Separate age-appropriate recreation areas, including a lounge for adolescent patients, to maximize opportunity for natural behavior and self-expression in a homelike environment.
Private consultation rooms on each floor for family members.
A multicultural, nondenominational chapel.
The Kids Kafé cafeteria, serving sandwiches and wholesome snacks to patient families and visitors on weekdays.
If you share our commitment to children, we invite you to share in our future. Together we can make the best care even better.

Our Philosophy
The patient, the child, is always our highest priority.

Throughout all levels of care, the philosophy of treatment at Advocate Children's Hospital is an unwavering respect for the world of a child. Every staff member works to minimize children's fear of treatment, to modify the hospitalization experience for maximum comfort, and to view the nature of treatment through the eyes of a child.

Nurses, medical technicians, and aides are specially trained in pediatric care and dedicated to working with children. Staff members speak to children at eye level. Younger patients may be examined and treated while sitting on a parent's lap. A favorite doll or stuffed animal can undergo a mock examination, while the procedure is explained to the child.

For children referred to us for specialty care, Advocate Children's Hospital maintains a partnership philosophy with the child's regular physician. We are committed to ongoing communication to ensure that the child will benefit from a well-coordinated continuum of care.
