Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Health Care and Advocate Medical Group (AMG) are pleased to welcome Darren R. Gitelman, MD, as senior medical director of Advocate Memory Center.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Gitelman join us. He brings an expertise in behavioral neurology and over 20 years’ experience caring for patients with dementia and their families,” says James R. Dan, MD, FACP, president of Advocate Medical Group.
“The recruitment of Dr. Gitelman was made possible by donations from the Frisbie family and enables us to become leaders in the care of Alzheimer patients,” adds William Rhoades, DO, chair of medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
In his role, Dr. Gitelman will collaborate with Advocate’s neurosciences program to develop new clinical and research programs, establish clinical trials, maintain medical standards of care and provide specialized Alzheimer’s training to physicians.
Dr. Gitelman studied medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He completed an internal medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, N.Y. He was then a neurology resident and chief resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Since 1994, he has been on the neurology faculty of Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Ill.
Dr. Gitelman is board certified in neurology and in behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry. He will begin seeing patients in January 2015.
