WHAT: The Simms Family Emergency and Trauma Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital-Park Ridge opened for patient care today, Wednesday, July 1st. It signals completion of the 18-month, $40-million dollar expansion project.
WHEN: The transition from the Emergency Department entrance at the front of the hospital to the new entrance at the side of the campus occurred at 10:00 a.m. The first patient was seen in the new space shortly thereafter. All directional signs on the campus now direct patients, families and visitors to the new location.

BACKGROUND:
The first major construction project on the Dempster Street campus in almost six years, the new emergency and trauma center has 40 private treatment rooms in a state-of-the-art environment. The expansion includes thirteen additional rooms to meet the growing need for services in the community. In 2015, nearly 70,000 adults and children sought emergency and trauma services at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital-Park Ridge.
The expansion includes a new pediatric emergency department with a kid-friendly environment for the specialized care at Advocate Children’s Hospital-Park Ridge. With a Pediatric Critical Care Center designation from the State of Illinois, it is the only center of its kind between downtown Chicago, Rockford and Wisconsin. The designation reflects the highest level of pediatric critical care and emergency care to meet the unique needs of children.
The Simms Family Emergency and Trauma Center is named to honor the generosity of the Simms Family of Park Ridge. The local family has donated over $5-million dollars to the hospital in the past 50 years.
