Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Condell Medical Center, Sherman Hospital recognized for excellence by IBM Watson Health
Downers Grove, IL – In recognition of its performance on patient safety, inpatient and outpatient quality of care, financial stability, operational efficiency and patient experience measures, Advocate Health Care has once again been named to the 100 Top Hospitals list by IBM Watson HealthTM, formerly known as the Truven Health Analytics® 100 Top Hospitals.
Three hospitals in the Advocate system – Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Ill., Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill., and Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Ill. – the most of any health care system in the state, were among only eight Illinois hospitals that achieved the recognition.
Advocate Illinois Masonic was one of three Chicago area Major Teaching Hospitals to make the list while Advocate Condell and Sherman were two of the four Large Community Hospitals honored from Illinois. Advocate Sherman Hospital was also honored with the Everest Award, which distinguishes hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.
“This honor reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and associates to delivering the highest quality care in the safest possible environment,” said Jim Skogsbergh, president and chief executive officer of Advocate Health Care. “Their unrelenting commitment to making our communities healthier and the care experience more personalized and convenient is what makes Advocate one of the strongest health care organizations in the country.”
To make IBM Watson Health’s elite group, hospitals must not only provide the best possible care for patients, they must also demonstrate excellence as an efficiently run business. IBM Watson Health considers the Top 100 as shining examples for others to follow.
Based on the results of this year’s study, the IBM Watson Health researchers extrapolate that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in the award-winning facilities:
- More than 102,000 additional lives could be saved;
- More than 43,000 additional patients could be complication-free;
- More than $4.4 billion in inpatient costs could be saved;
-
Approximately 200,000 fewer discharged patients would be readmitted within 30 days
The Advocate sites were chosen from 2,740 eligible U.S. hospitals. Key performance benchmarks for award winners included survival rates, readmission rates and shorter length of stay, among others.
