Outpatient clinical experiences

The resident and faculty primary care clinics are just down the street from the Children's Hospital. Our primary care clinic boasts five core general pediatricians as a constant presence, promoting patient continuity in resident education. During your ambulatory/acute care clinic rotations during each year of residency, you will receive both daily clinic morning reports as well as afternoon Continuity Clinic teaching sessions covering a variety of topics and led by both primary care and subspecialty faculty and residents alike. We pride ourselves on the broad experience that you will receive in general pediatric clinic in both common "bread and butter" cases as well as a variety of more complex and rare diagnoses.
During your intern year Outpatient Subspecialties rotation as well as your elective rotations, you will receive exposure to a variety of outpatient subspecialty care. Additionally, you will have experiences in specific Newborn clinics as well as Adolescent Medicine, Complex Care and Mental and Behavioral Health clinics.
To allow for maximal resident-patient continuity, we have created a “teams” model for residents, which allows for patients to be scheduled either with the same resident or a small team of residents over time. Our 41 residents are divided into 6 teams, identified by colors. Not only does this model allow for increased outpatient clinic continuity, it parallels post-residency primary care clinic models.
