Preliminary internship experience
Preliminary residents are an integral part of our program.
They work hand in hand with categorical residents, have the same educational experience and schedule.
We are very proud of all of our preliminary graduates and are very happy when they come back to work in our institution.
Preliminary Specialty Focused Curriculum
The goal of the preliminary year is to give the interns exposure to internal medicine that would augment their training during their specialty residency:
- Medicine based curriculum with a specialty focus in the field of Radiology, PM&R, Anesthesia, Neurology, and Dermatology
- Attendance at specialty focused conferences: PM&R, Radiology, and Anesthesia
- Dedicated advisor and specialty mentor
Preliminary VS. Categorical Intern Experience
- Same educational experience
- Same schedule
- 8-10 electives of choice
- No requirement for continuity clinic or Geriatric/Palliative Care rotation
Example of preliminary year schedule:
- MICU- 8 weeks
- GMF- 12-16 weeks
- Cardiology- 4 weeks
- Night Medicine/Cross cover- 8-10 weeks
- Electives- 16-20 weeks
