Nesset Pavilion - Continuity Clinic
Example of Continuity Clinic Schedule

- Continuity Clinic blocks are 2-weeks and repeat over the course of categorical residents’ training as per the X+Y scheduling system.
- E-Learning is conducted using the Amboss learning platform, focused on outpatient management of high yield topics and high-value care.
- Didactic teaching during 1 half-day of the second week of clinic follows whichever high yield topics are reviewed on Amboss during the first week to reinforce learning. These sessions are led by the teaching faculty at Nesset Pavilion.
- Administrative time provides the opportunity to complete clinic tasks such as calling patients with test results, filling out paperwork, and medication management.
Clinic Highlights
- We dedicate the initial week of clinic to getting new interns acclimated to the outpatient clinic setting. Interns are initially paired with a senior resident who will guide them through the clinic structure and logistics, EPIC navigation, different patient encounters, notes and templates, billing and coding.
- Leadership opportunities are available too! A dedicated senior resident is selected to lead each clinic block and is responsible for overseeing resident clinic tasks and workflow. This senior resident serves as a conduit between the residents and administration throughout the year.
- The continuity clinic serves as an extension to our inpatient service, providing both patients and residents alike with continuity of care and enhancing the patient-provider connection.
- Our clinic has a dedicated ambulatory staff consisting of nurses, medical assistants, and front desk staff who all play an integral role in the resident ambulatory experience.
- Within the same building we have multidisciplinary resources available to patients, including but not limited to: sub-specialty cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology services, Spanish language clinic, pharmacists, diabetic educator, clinical dietitian, care management, social work, nurse triage, in-house laboratory and select imaging services, anticoagulation clinic, and a food pantry.
- As a senior resident, you will get to experience what a call shift entails by holding a dedicated ‘Clinic Pager’. This is done with an attending physician as back-up for the senior resident for any acute issues or questions. This is done once per clinic block and entails responding to urgent outpatient calls.
Additional Ambulatory Experience
- Outpatient sub-specialty clinics are available for residents to rotate with over the course of training. Some examples include Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Lipid clinic, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Pain Medicine, and Urology, amongst others.
- An additional component of the Ambulatory Experience is a 2-week Ambulatory block. This entails the resident rotating through various subspecialty clinics over the course of the 2-week block, exemplified in the image below.
