Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: When applying to residency, I was aware of LGH's strong reputation and commitment to teaching. It wasn't until my Sub-I as a fourth year that I realized how incredibly close knit the program is, how dedicated the attendings are to teaching, and how close the residents are. The program truly felt like home. I also was attracted to the strong didactics, diverse patient population, and variety of opportunities for residents interested in fellowship. The location and work life balance are also added benefits!
Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I chose Lutheran General because everyone I interacted with throughout the interview process was so kind. The residents continued to demonstrate that this was a positive and enriching place be a resident and that you will be challenged while also supported while you are here.
Medical School: Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I chose Lutheran because of its friendly atmosphere and culture! The psychiatry program has a close-knit group of residents that get along with each other. I also grew up in the Chicago suburbs and I wanted to continue my training in the area.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: When choosing a residency program, I knew that I was looking for a small and close-knit program that valued resident wellbeing and education. During my sub-internship, the attendings and residents welcomed me as part of the team, and I got to see first-hand how supportive and attentive everyone was. I knew that this program would provide me the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of patients and give me the support I needed to become the best psychiatrist I could be.
Medical School: University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine
Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I found Advocate’s faculty and residents to be a tight-knit, empathetic, and compassionate group during my sub-I. I often saw that they went the extra mile for their patients. The faculty were also very supportive and enthusiastic about teaching. I also felt that the program valued resident wellness and provided ample opportunities and training in psychopharmacology, neuromodulation, and psychotherapy. Advocate is also located in the suburbs of Chicago and not too far from downtown, which was a huge draw!
Medical School: Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science
Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: After rotating at LGH as a psychiatry sub-intern, it was clear to me that the psychiatry residency program provides an encouraging and comfortable environment that allows residents to be their best self, personally and professionally. Also, the location on the outskirts of Chicago is a big plus and allows for a highly diverse patient population while still being community oriented. LGH strikes a great balance between education and resident wellness!
Medical School: The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University
Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: There is a very strong culture of comradery and respect in the psychiatry residency program at Lutheran. All the residents in the program are very friendly and supportive of one another. All attending physicians and teaching faculty are dedicated and enthusiastic instructors who have a clear passion for medical education. Residents receive exceptional training and supervision in the practice of adult psychiatry in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Residents also have in-depth rotation experiences in specialized areas of psychiatry, including Addiction Medicine, Child and Adolescent, and Consult/Liaison psychiatry.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I was very excited to pursue training at ALGH as the smaller class size really created a community where people knew and cared about one another. Now that I have begun my intern year, I have noticed that this comradery goes beyond just the residents to the teaching/administrative staff, nurses, social workers, and others in the hospital who come together to prioritize patients.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: The Psychiatry program at Advocate Lutheran General had the perfect mix for me: a warm culture that fosters growth as both a clinician and a person, a wealth of opportunities to explore multiple psychiatric treatment modalities and settings, and the chance to take care of Chicagoland: my home turf! The true secret sauce behind this program is the people, however: from faculty to residents to GME staff, everyone is supportive, kind, and dedicated.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I chose to pursue psychiatry residency at ALGH due to the kindness and friendliness I witnessed among residents and attendings during interview day. Receiving a signed card during the holidays gave me a sense of belonging even before work began. I also grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and returning home for my training with such a great group of people was an offer I couldn't refuse.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: During my psychiatry Sub-I at LGH, I saw and felt from the residents and attendings how much care and support is offered to each other and to patients. Being a smaller class size, I valued that residents received attentive and individualized teaching and training which was an important aspect in choosing a residency program. Also, Lutheran emphasizes the well-being of residents which really makes everyone feel like a family.

Reason I chose Advocate Psychiatry Residency: I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of ALGH! The program’s outstanding community cultivated by the residents, faculty and program director was wonderful to witness. I was also drawn to the program’s diverse patient population and the boundless opportunities for growth and learning in child & adolescent psychiatry. The energy here is infectious, and I can't wait to dive in, and be surrounded by passionate colleagues and a wealth of amazing experiences waiting to be explored!

Reason I chose Advocate Psychiatry Residency Program: I chose this program because of the warmth and dedication of the psychiatry team, as well as my familiarity with the Chicagoland area and community. The team fosters a supportive atmosphere and encourages a safe learning environment. I’m also eager to contribute to the community I hold dearly through ALGH. Overall, the program emphasizes the importance of scientific, cultural, artistic, and personal growth, which aligns with my own values.

Reason I chose Advocate Psychiatry Residency Program: The ALGH Psychiatry program is full of welcoming and thoughtful individuals that foster a positive work environment and training experience. I was able to observe this first-hand during my Sub-I as a 4th year medical student. The combination of a diverse learning experience, supportive team, and the opportunity to care for patients close to my hometown have all contributed to the appeal! The entire team feels like a family.

Reason I chose Advocate Psychiatry Residency Program: I chose Advocate LGH after doing a Sub-I there and seeing how kind and helpful all of the residents, attendings, and staff were! The program truly feels like a family, and I felt welcomed from my first day. Growing up in Lincolnwood, I also loved the proximity to home and being able to come back to the north side of Chicago with my family and friends.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: During my Sub-I at Lutheran, I immediately felt at home. Every interaction with the attendings made it clear that this was a place where I could learn and grow without fear of making mistakes. They created an environment that felt both challenging and supportive, where asking questions was encouraged and learning was truly a team effort. Beyond the incredible clinical training and exposure to a wide range of psychiatric pathologies, the sense of community drew me in. The program had a warmth and camaraderie that felt like family, something I knew I wanted in my residency. I feel so lucky and excited to be a part of a program where I know I’ll be supported, challenged, and surrounded by people who genuinely care about their patients and each other.
Hobbies/Interests: Running, biking, volleyball, and pickleball, anything that gets me moving outdoors!

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I chose Advocate Lutheran because of its welcoming culture and the diverse opportunities it offers its residents. Everyone I met during my Sub-I and the interview process was kind and approachable. I appreciated receiving a handwritten holiday card during the winter season and the warmth the residents and the attendings showed on interview day, making it easy for me to ask questions or voice concerns.
Hobbies/Interests: Reading, traveling, camping and the outdoors in general

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: My experience here on my M3 clerkship allowed me to witness the warm, friendly, and welcoming environment created by this program. The close-knit and collaborative relationships between residents, faculty, and staff made it feel more like a family than a workplace. The diversity of the patient population and exposure to neuromodulation made me feel confident that I would develop my skills through a broad clinical experience. The comprehensive training offered, emphasis on work-life balance, and overall happiness of everyone at this program combined perfectly into the ideal environment for my residency training.

Reason for Choosing Advocate Lutheran General Hospital: I loved the supportive atmosphere of not only the psychiatry residency, but ALGH as a whole! I completed multiple rotations at Lutheran during the 3rd and 4th year of medical school, and I would often run into residents and nurses from previous rotations who remembered me and wanted to continue encouraging and helping me.
