Personal Emergency Response System (PERS)

Call 800-564-2025

What is PERS?

For over 25 years, a PERS has helped people preserve their independence by giving them the confidence to continue living in their own homes and doing things for themselves. To call for help, subscribers simply press the PERS help button they wear as a pendant or on a wristband.

The help button activates a small, in-home communicator that automatically dials the emergency response center. Within seconds, the call will be answered by a caring, highly trained representative.

PERS is able to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They immediately inform the caregiver and designated health providers of any change in the subscriber's condition, which helps minimize complications and makes sure they quickly get the right help.

Who uses PERS?

Older adults often use PERS to remain independent yet safe in their homes. PERS can even provide fast assistance for patients coping with illnesses, including congestive heart failure, diabetes, COPD, Parkinson's disease, emphysema or the aftereffects of a stroke. PERS also offers a special option for subscribers who are severely arthritic or otherwise disabled.

How does PERS work?

PERS subscribers establish a network of friends, neighbors, relatives and health care providers. Whenever a PERS subscriber needs help, they simply press the help button that they wear on their wrist or around their neck. This button activates a small in-home unit called a communicator. The communicator puts you in touch with the PERS staff who will find out what kind of help you need.

Once they identify the problem and the help you need, they will notify the appropriate care team. That could include notifying a family member or neighbor or even dispatching an ambulance.
