What is a gastroenterologist?

A gastroenterologist focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system. Digestive diseases and disorders can affect the esophagus, stomach, rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, small and large intestines, and bile ducts.

What will my gastroenterologist do on my first visit?

When you first meet your gastroenterologist, they’ll ask how you’re feeling and discuss any concerns you have about gut health or discomfort going to the bathroom. They’ll also want to understand your family’s medical history. A physical exam and diagnostic tests are also likely.

Colonoscopy: catch cancer signs early

A screening colonoscopy can detect colon cancer in its early stages, when it's very treatable. You should get a colonoscopy every 10 years, beginning at age 45. Depending on your family history and other potential risk factors, you may need earlier or more regular screening.

A simpler process: We offer direct access to screening colonoscopies to qualified patients, saving you time and money.

Don’t worry: What you should know about your first colonoscopy.
