What’s it like giving birth at a birthing center?
Experience the birth of your child – from labor and delivery through recovery – with full amenities for you, your baby and the people who mean the most to you. We offer expert obstetrics care and resources, including helping mothers breastfeed successfully to advanced treatment for high-risk pregnancies or complications. Our birthing center has the services and expert team that will make your birth experience safe and memorable.
How long do you stay at a birthing center after giving birth?
The length of stay at our birthing center depends on your specific labor and delivery experience. For vaginal deliveries, the typical stay is 24-48 hours if there are no complications. For C-section deliveries, the usual stay is 48-72 hours to monitor recovery. In cases where there are medical issues for you or baby, or if you have twins, a complicated, or premature birth, an extended stay may be necessary.

Breastfeeding support
Advocate Trinity Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Chicago to be designated Baby-Friendly, a worldwide breastfeeding quality improvement project created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The designation recognizes the highest level of breastfeeding support a hospital can offer to moms and babies. For more information about the Baby-Friendly designation or our breastfeeding services, call 773-967-5250.
Why is breastfeeding important?
Providing infants with human milk gives them the most complete nutrition possible. Scientific studies have shown that breastfed children have far fewer and less serious illnesses – including a reduced risk of SIDS, childhood cancers and diabetes – than those who never received breast milk.
