Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications for appointment to the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center:
- Graduates of U.S. or Canadian Medical Schools
- Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Graduates of U.S. Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine
- Accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Graduates of Medical Schools Outside the U.S. or Canada who:
- Hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or
- Possess a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction, or
- Completed a Fifth Pathway program through an LCME-accredited medical school.
Application Requirements
We accept applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The following materials must be submitted:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Personal Statement
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)/Dean’s Letter
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- At least one must be from an anesthesiologist.
- We prefer, but do not require, the use of a standardized letter format for anesthesiologists.
- Official Graduate and Medical School Transcripts
- Official Test Transcripts (USMLE, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX, or NBME)
- USMLE Step 1: Must pass on the first attempt; prior to Jan 26, 2022, a score ≥ 230 required.
- USMLE Step 2 CK: Score ≥ 235 and must pass on the first attempt.
- COMLEX: Equivalent scores to USMLE required; must pass on the first attempt.
- ECFMG Certification (for International Medical Graduates) before a training license can be issued.
- Proof of passing Step 1 and Step 2 CK (or acceptable equivalent combinations from FMGEMS, NBME Part Sequence, or VQE).
- Medical School Graduation within 3 years of application, unless actively practicing anesthesiology.
- For CA-1/PGY-2 Applicants:
- Completion of one year of U.S. clinical experience.
- Completion of USMLE Step 3.
- Preferred: Two ICU rotations and one Emergency Medicine rotation.
- Visa Sponsorship: We only sponsor J-1 visas. Other visa types are not considered.
Application Timeline
- Application Deadline: October 31
- Interview Invitations: Sent electronically via ERAS on a rolling basis for interviews in November and December. Dates are confirmed on a first-response basis.
- Match Participation: All residents are selected through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
