Prospective Fellows Application Process

Applications for the 2026-2029 fellowship training program will be accepted exclusively via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Complete applications with all relevant documentation must be posted to ERAS by the deadline date. Incomplete applicant files will not be reviewed for candidacy.

Required elements of the ERAS file should include:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal statement
  • Medical school transcripts
  • USMLE, COMLEX or equivalent examination results with dates
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (including your most recent Residency Program Director) and a minimum of two (2) additional letters from faculty members directly familiar with your recent experience.
  • Recent photo

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

  • Three years of previous GME experience (Internal Medicine)
  • Minimum of 3 Letters of Recommendation, Maximum of 4 (Needs to be specialty specific)
  • All U.S. MD and IMG applicants must have passed Step 1 and Step 2 to be considered. 
  • All U.S DO applicants must have passed COMLEX Level 1, COMLEX Level 2, USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2
  • Applicants must have graduated medical school within the last 10 years to be considered
  • Applicants with a gap of 1 year or more between medical school graduation and entry to residency or fellowship must have clinical experience in the U.S.
  • Applicants on a J-1 visa sponsored through ECFMG will be considered.

Please note that our program is unable to review applications from H1/H1b visa candidates

Application Review and Interviews
The Program Director and fellowship faculty members will review and identify potential interview candidates utilizing the guidelines of the ACGME, Residency Review Committee and the ALGH Department of Internal Medicine. Candidates will be invited to interview based upon the quality of application materials and academic credentials. Applicants will be interviewed by the Program Director and no less than two additional faculty members. The opportunity to interact with current fellows will be offered.

Decision
At the conclusion of the interview process, all participating faculty are invited to submit recommendations to the Program Director. These recommendations, along with commentary from interviewing faculty are compiled in the applicant's file and reviewed in detail by the Program Director and the selection committee.
