Integrative medicine consultations

Find a doctor

Integrative medicine consultations are offered by some of our clinicians. During these visits, your provider will take a deeper look at one or two of your health concerns and provide recommendations for treatment.

Getting a consultation may be a good choice for you if:

  • You’re interested in a holistic approach to health care.
  • You have a complex condition and haven’t found relief through conventional approaches.
  • You don’t tolerate medications well, prefer to avoid prescription medications or don’t seem to be responding to them.

What to expect from an integrative medicine consultation

Consultations involve more time with your provider than you usually get. They’re often 60-80 minutes long. Follow-up visits are usually 15 to 45 minutes long.

When you make an appointment, we may provide forms to fill out. You may need to gather information from different places, so it’s best to fill out the forms before the day of your appointment.

Part of the information you should gather is a list of the dosages of any medications and supplements you take regularly. Bring all this information with you and arrive 15 minutes before your appointment so you have time to check in.

During your appointment, your integrative medicine provider will ask detailed questions about exercise, sleep, nutrition, relationships, stress, critical life events, spirituality and other topics. They may also order both conventional testing as well as validated lab tests that evaluate your saliva, stools or any heavy metals in your body.

Their recommendations may include treatments that don’t require medications, such as botanicals and supplements. You’ll receive complete information about how things like your nutrition, sleep and stress management practices may be affecting you. Your clinician may also recommend massage therapy, acupuncture or other holistic or conventional treatments.

Costs & insurance coverage

Comprehensive integrative medicine consultations will likely cost more than a conventional doctor visit. These visits are longer, and your provider will spend time apart from your appointment to coordinate your care. This may be reflected in your medical bill.

Office visits are covered by insurance, subject to any deductible or copay. Almost all lab tests are covered by insurance, subject to any deductible. Some outside laboratories will not bill insurance, so you would be responsible for payment.

We can give you a list of common labs so you can verify insurance coverage and determine the cost to you. You may choose whether to proceed with testing based on your personal preferences.
