Treating the mind, body & spirit
Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with evidence-based therapies that are sometimes referred to as complementary or holistic medicine.
At Advocate Health Care, our integrative medicine physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners work side by side with providers from a wide range of specialties. From managing diabetes to fighting cancer, we’re your partners in healing and we’ll design a program specifically tailored to help you live well.
All staff are highly credentialed, nationally certified or state licensed in their area of practice. They work to encourage balance in your whole life and treat more than just symptoms.

What is integrative medicine?
Integrative medicine uses a variety of therapies to treat your mind and spirit as well as your body, including treatments such as acupuncture and massage therapy. You might choose integrative medicine if some of the following things apply to you:
- You’re interested in a holistic approach to health.
- You have a complex condition and haven’t found help from other options.
- You don’t tolerate traditional medications well, prefer to avoid prescription medications or haven’t gotten good results from them.
What integrative medicine services and treatments are available?
Acupuncture
Acupuncture reduces pain and inflammation from a variety of conditions. Very thin, sharp needles are inserted in different parts of your body to affect the flow of qi (chee) through meridians in the body.
Consultations for complex conditions
Integrative medicine consultations may be recommended for complex conditions that don’t seem to be responding to conventional treatments.
Massage therapy
Your health care provider may recommend different types of massage therapy for managing muscular tension, chronic pain, injuries, prenatal concerns, or pain related to aging and arthritis.
Integrative primary care
Integrative primary care providers – including doctors, nurse practitioners, and physicians assistants – have advanced training in integrative and holistic based care. They use a combination of integrative medicine and conventional medicine with their patients.
Support care for cancer
When combined with conventional cancer treatments, integrative therapies can contribute to your quality of life by helping reduce side effects of cancer and cancer treatments such as fatigue, stress, pain, nausea and immune system functioning.
